Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will get TouchWiz UI update in August – Tears of Joy and Sorrow have been witnessed

Samsung announced an update which will bring their custom UI called TouchWiz to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Update is scheduled to be rolled out in august for US devices, and according to Samsung it’s optional as you can decline to install TouchWiz. Interestingly you won’t get any future updates though if you decide to ditch the TouchWiz upgrade.

To me the Galaxy 10.1 tab is currently the best Android tablet on the market despite it’s shortcomings like the missing sd card slot. The form factor is just great, and having a lightweight tablet is especially nice for people who use their tablets for longer periods of time. Looking at the first TouchWiz screenshots i’m not very optimistic. Samsung has struggled to create a good Android skin for some time now, and i always thought of TouchWiz being mediocre at best. Of all manufacturers only HTC managed to create a consistent and professional look for their HTC Sense skin. Even though HTC Sense also starts to get a little bit outdated.

I’m still hoping for a true Nexus Tab, or at least those XDA Devs should help us getting new pure Android versions on the Galaxy tab.
